My search methods and databases that I employ to collect information for using in work or writing has mainly consisted of two methods. The first method I use is a google search of a keyword or words. I select sites that are the most up-to-date and from what I would consider reliable. This has usually worked for me. The second method I use is to look up sites that are listed in books or articles that I read. Because I have an extensive literacy library, I will look at books or magazines that have the most recent information and note what university the author is from or what websites the author has listed in the book or article. This has been a good way to extend a search and to find more sources. I am happy to report that this past week I have extended my repertoire of on-line sources by lurking through the following:
Technorati - a search engine for searching blogs
Diigo - a research tool to learn; how to research, share and collaborate
Delicious - a social bookmarking service
Twittorati - the world of twitter and microblogging
Although I have yet add any to my blog. I intend to very soon.

Wow, Deb! I love the new photo! Also, it's impressive that you've done so much research on all these "new" digital literacy tools.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any favorite sites for looking at digital literacy with a critical eye?
